I tend to respect project managers who came from production (ie. who can code, design, or produce something tangible), vs. "professional" managers who have no idea how the work is actually done.

Sadly I didn't encounter many.

    Maybe the "manager" job doesn't appeal to us as much coding does.

    There are some out there. In my experience they are the best.

    It's the same way with officers in the military.

    @Phyro Maybe. But after a while in the job, you're kinda expected to step to a mangement role. Being an "individual contributor" forever is not always an option...
