Maybe, because of the heating. But I think the greater impact would be on battery lifespan, even if you computer is always connected to a power source.

They have powerful machines to rent so you don't have to use your own. I think it may worth the money to have a machine available 24/7 that will probably train your model in less time. No, this is not a sponsored message :)

@lucaspar ayy thanks, but my uni got a lab with high power gpu so we can use to learn, I still haven’t got permission yet so I’m currently learning it on my own laptop. Will save the link if I needed in the future

If you continue on the path of machine learning, there's no substitute for a good desktop tower — more power, better cooling, lower price.

The other option would be cloud: AWS Sagemaker, Google cloud AI, etc. Can get pricey as well though.

@bittersweet a cpu tower is impossible for me now as I’m undergoing uni and it gonna cost a leg, I can rely on uni lab computer tho. They offer a spec for ML

@devTea Yeah I meant more for the future, if you keep experimenting with it beyond uni.

AWS Sagemaker can be pretty affordable as well to play around with if you pay attention to which instances you use (https://aws.amazon.com/sagemaker/...), their environment can be very confusing, but i've messed around with some video style transfer rendering stuff and the bill was about $5. Considering how much a GPU costs, if you don't game much you might as well rent the capacity in a datacenter.

Just burn them aws servers for this shit.

Long periods of heat can degrade the thermal compound, which will in turn reduce the cooling ability.
Unless you disable the thermal safeties you should be okay, just renew the thermal paste when you notice more throttling than normal.
