zborowa28yI would not concentrate on all new entries to the coding world. Just concentrate on what is important and you should have enough time to enjoy both.
-
afflict10228yI was literally just talking to a friend about this... Working on my own at the moment quite exciting.
-
skonteam9828y@tahnik I am in the same situation I just can't stop reading that doc or checking this new tech , and if I am tired of coding I just go and customize my Linux dotfiles even more , I think it replaced gaming .
-
tahnik389918y@skonteam It's just feel bad that I can't call myself a gamer anymore. It gave such amazing times.Took me to a whole new world :(

@tahnik I was just navel-gazing on this last week. Early WoW days I was a raider in an end-game guild that made cash carrying people through that content. "Tag the boss and just die - we'll handle the kill"
Today, a number of us are returning to the game after some years away. We mostly have families now, and careers, and...Steam accounts full of lightly-used titles.
Life moves on, priorities shift. BUT - when you were once able to devote the time to operating at one level in a game, and see yourself as that thing, it is a little harder to take that step back and be okay with seeing yourself there.
It feels like demotion, failure.
It's not.
The people we carried all those years ago didn't suck, and weren't not-real-gamers. They were as real as their circumstances then permitted. Just like you and I are today.
You have the soul of a gamer, & the time constraints of a new life.
Play on! -
@tahnik Sure, move on for now. Keep your hand in it as you can, retire early, and go back to where you want to be if that is still what you want to do then. You may find that things have changed. Either way, you'll have the flexibility to do what you want!
-
afflict10228y@tahnik Developing, I'm getting more joy from creating something than playing something. Plus I'll be gamed out with all the beta testing soon 😉
-
afflict10228y@tahnik even more so I think today alone deviant got more of my time than all the gaming I've done in the last month. 😀
-
afflict10228y@tahnik that it is. I just currently have to put the instant gratification monkey in its cage and focus on the gratification the sacrifice will bring me in future. Besides I have fun developing the game as I mess with fun character design and other things I don't get to do in my normal day to day job.
-
Throw a spouse/partner and a kid or two into the mix... at least when I buy games they're only a few bucks used at GameStop, and I know which ones ended up being duds.
-
Gaming is a solid stress reliever for me. Could not function without it. Plus challenging games are a good brain workout as well!
-
@tahnik you should checkout thehappiecat youtube channel! At least it gave me some sense to me that what Im doing now may converge to videogames later!

Being a developer is it still possible to be a gamer?
I feel like with all the new technologies coming in, I am always occupied with learning something and I don't get the time to game at all.
I am coming to a realisation that everything together is not possible anymore :(
