camhowe4419yYeah, he needs a bit of a wake-up call, but there are tons of companies still using SVN.. In fact, everywhere I worked the past 5 years, except for my most recent gig, used SVN

m0011259yLast and only time I used subversion was in 2005/2006 and only because I suggested it to the team I was working with.

There is nothing really wrong with SVN and it is extremely easy to use. Git on the other hand is harder to learn but well worth the investment. I use Git exclusively these days and would be really frustrated if I had to go back to using SVN at work.

Seethe4599yI think it's good to know both as a flexible developer, I do use both with different clients. I do prefer git though there seems to be a slightly better ecosystem built around it.
When your professor tries to tell you no one uses git in industry and you feel bad for all the other students who believe him. Side note: he is convinced everyone uses subversion.
