    im sorry for sounding like a noob, but isn't javascript frontend, and java backend, aren't they like very different things

    In my opinion Java is a mature cohesive platform, Javascript is fine for frontend development (this includes server side stuff like node)

    @Tylord89 correct, but in case he used Java for desktop or Android apps, JavaScript can be a replacement via electron, react native ...etc.
    It can also replace Java web services that rely on spring framework
