nnee4676yI'm too lazy yo lookup what's AAA in games context so I'll remain knowing only about AAA batteries.

@nnee
Big production with multi-million dollar budget eg. Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, Need For Speed... -
lxmcf199506y@sergiolarosa89 yet they can jump from 720p to 4k with textures unsupported by previous engines?
The point of a remaster is to optimise, enhance, fix and port a game.
If dark souls can go from struggling to hit 30 FPS on last gen consoles to hitting constant 1080p 60 with enhanced visuals across the board, and fortnite go from locked 30 to locked 60 on the same console with better visual fidelity in just an update.
Push the limits, optimise code, if you genuinely can't hit 60 FPS, maybe just dial back graphics a bit.
No need to be so bloody toxic towards something, we are all developers yes, we all specialise in seperate things, have seperate opinions, I've had to deal with enough 'elitism' and toxicity this week from other developers... -
besplash486yMore importantly in my opinion, why is there barely and passion in developing big games anymore? I know there are small indie companies or companies that used to be indie and despite growing, keeping their mentality but it's mostly just ‚how do we get more money out of it'. I know they need the money to further improve the game, but why are there so few good games coming out and why are there so many games that just get destroyed over time by greediness? Nintendo games, GTA and Path of Exile are the only games that I could still enjoy playing right now as I can feel how the developers actually wanted to create this game. Despite GTA not being my playstyle, I love the details, I love that the graphics are good and it still runs on a trashy rig and I love that they keep their business model. I mostly love playing old games like Sacred 1, Warcraft 3 or Diablo 1 &2 as they still have that feeling. Sorry for the long rant.

@besplash it's because every large game is an enormous risk and a lot of people depend on its success. Game companies just can't afford to have a game flop anymore, so they prefer going for safer stuff (witness the sudden interest in battle royale). Sad, but true. If you want that kind of flexibility you have to decrease the budget.
Oh, there are still some awesome modern games though, check out NieR Automata for example. Terrific game, tons of creativity and passion there. -
... But muh human eye can't see more than 30 fps anyway.
...
...
Sorry, I had to.
Dear AAA game developers, if your game ran at 30 FPS on the prior generations and you remaster it but keep it at 30 FPS, there is a special place in hell for you and I'll meet you...
