    Was the old one too low power for your needs, was the power not adjustable, or did it only have a dirty tip?

    There are cheap irons that are perfectly enough for most home gamers.

    @electrineer it had a really big tip, didn't get hot enough, and the iron plugged directly into the socket, so no adjustments

    I got my station with power control for under 20€ and no issues. Not a fancy one with precise temperature control or lots of power but it's enough for what I'm using it for.

    @electrineer You got lucky - I spent the same and ended up with one that decides it's not going to melt solder half the time :(
