why not help yourself with things that are developed for years with big communities behind?

nature of the profession usualy boils down to not having enough budget or time to develop something from ground up very well if it's a bigger project.

the other thing is how you use the frameworks. jquery for example is being abused a lot with inline unreadable code, but writing small plugins for finctionalities on the website can give you a fast and powerful way to maintain and develop flexible interactive interfaces.
