Root797676y"Duolingo just tweeted about how we achieved a 50% female ratio of new engineering college graduate hires. We're very proud of this. I'm disappointed that the top comments were all from men angrily arguing discrimination, and that we should hire the best people instead. Idiots."
Wow.
Hiring the best people is stupid, apparently. Guess that's what happens when you put idiots in charge of hiring: they hire idiots.
Treating people differently based on gender or race is sexist/racist. Hire the best, no matter what their "minority qualifications" are. Being a "diversity hire" is fucking insulting.
Yeah, this person needs to get eaten by a cheesegrater and then properly seasoned with salt. Talk about human cancer. -

Prime soy boy beta male material.
God I feel sorry for the kids I might have in the future. They're gonna have to grow up with this dude's soft ass kids. Smfh -
This mofo is automating SJWs. I wouldn't be surprised if SJW troll bots flood the internet.

@Root The duolingo hire offended me — no black people. And what about furries? There's no one identifying as a fox! They oppress the valuable worldview of fox people by focusing on hiring women! /s
Our current hiring process consists of a few small randomized tests. After that, I do an intake/interview purely by text chat before inviting them over. Usually I've basically made up my mind before I know what a person looks like.
This has led to 42% women working on the product, 26% if we're only considering coding, 18% if we only consider backend/database.
I agree that diversity is important, and can improve team quality. I like having women on teams, I also prefer having foreigners on teams (not based on skin color, literally just someone who has lived in a different part of the world).
But hard quotas are also dangerous for the quality of work.
It's not just the hiring process where you need to be "blind" — bias happens everywhere along the way, from parents to teachers. Sometimes bluntly "Be a man, don't cry and study harder" to subtle: "it's OK if you fail math, you're probably better at creative things like your mom".
If you hire blindly based on merit, your percentage will likely be higher than 0%, but lower than 50%.
But the rest of the fight should not happen artificially in the hiring process.
At a certain point, your hiring process is not to blame, it's the rest of society with its weird little subconscious biases.
That's why my over-feminized Disney princess niece will find a bunch of Arduino kits with sparkly wearable neopixel LEDs between her birthday presents next weekend — because she showed interest in my soldering bench, and her parents will exclusively give her pink plastic crap she didn't ask for. -
taglia5716y@Root I saw the same tweet and I thought the same thing.
I would like to ask them something like "If your child is in a life threatening situation and he need an operation with give him a 5% to survive, you would choose the best surgeon, or someone based simply on gender/race/sex orientation/religion/whatever?"
The answers would be really interesting.. -
Root797676y@taglia "Would you go to a restaurant that hired based on 'diversity' instead of skill? What about a hospital?"
-
taglia5716y@Root the "funny" part is that this people wants a gender quota only for selected domains, and for a selected gender.
Have you ever seen them fighting to have a "male quota" for works that are typically for women, like kindergarten/primary school teachers, or nurses?
Nope. They fight only for a "female quota".
Have you ever seen them fighting to have a "female quota" for works like house/road construction, truck driver, warehouse worker, or any "heavy" work that is typically done by men?
Nope. They fight only to have a "female quota" into management or office work.
I mean, I'm not against having a female quota into workplaces, but this people should promote a real equality.. :/
Sorry for the "long rant", but this people really pisses me off -.-" -
@bittersweet my little cousin sis is pretty smart and really liked the Rubik's cube I had. I really wanna gift her one. Good thing she doesn't play with dolls and loves sports.
-
@Stuxnet so what? They got someone to beat up in the schoolyard, even though they probably will have to stand in line to wait their turn 😂

My god the decline of western civilization is in full swing now. All the power of modern technology and we have people making applications to police people’s writing for words that might make the children of the snowflake uncomfortable. There was a time not that long ago when we were landing people on the moon with aspirations to go to the stars and in a few short decades we’ve watched the world degenerate to this horse shit.

devios157016yThe name Alex is more commonly male than female, making the name of this tool sexist. It also has Egyptian origins meaning it also favours one race over another.
For shame!!
In all seriousness though, anyone can find something to be offended by in anything. How about instead of trying to sanitize the world so that nobody has hurt feelings anymore, maybe we should learn to not be so damn judgmental of each other. -
Root797676y@taglia I'm totally against having any quotas at all.
Hiring someone to fill a quota is both prejudiced and insulting to the person.
These people claim they are fighting e.g. sexism ... by being sexist. It's not fighting fire with fire; it's more like "fighting" a drying flood by spraying more water. -
