I'm trying to decide between a MacBook Pro 13" (2017) vs. MacBook Air (2018).

Specs are somewhat similar; but with a huge price tag difference. The MacBook Air costs a quarter more where I live. I can afford either; my dilemma is which model's usefulness will last longer.

I need it to build and test a React Native application with some custom native code 😟

how often do you travel from one place to another with your laptop?

I work with a desktop from my home office. I work away from my office about twice a week with an existing laptop from 2013.

The Mac's for compiling, building and debugging.

@saintograph go with the mac pro. Because twice a week doesn't justify the less weight of the air compared to the processor power ratio of the pro. plus as you've said the pro is cheaper for you so you can spend the difference on a new usb-c ported monitor or mouse or keyboard.

Both belong to the mac pro (i.e. trash can)

Last year I decided to go with the 2015 15" Macbook Pro. It has USB A/HDMI/SD cards lot, a great keyboard, smaller trackpad (my palms touch the newer ones), and the specs are good. If you are ok with the newer models, then I'd always opt for a Pro over an Air for development.

@Stebner55 I got a pro 2017 last week. I love the aesthetics (my first Mac), but miss a larger screen when I'm working on it.
