@fullsnack-dev if you're browsing try Arch. Or Gentoo. Or go to the other end of the spectrum and try CentOS or Debian.

I've heard good things about antergos

@irene yeah but you still sort of own it, in the sense that you're renting it. The unit of abstraction there is a full-fledged, independent machine or "server" that you can conceivably call yours for a time as specified by your VPS contract.

For development of any kind all I need is xterm, tmux, ssh, insomnia, slack, telegram, Firefox, Firefox Dev, Vivaldi, and steam for downtime. None of these have any specific distro requirement.

So I don't really understand the OP's question. Is it borne, perhaps, of the delusion that you need to use a different distro for your desktop UI to look different?

One traverses my reverse tunnel for work sites, and the other is used for searches and personal stuff. Vivaldi is used for chrome-required stuff.

Debian has served me pretty well over the past few years.

I am commenting that I have no comment for non-Ubuntu based Linux distro for development purpose.

@irene I also have two Firefox. Firefox dev have few stuffs different from normal Firefox. But then normal Firefox is stable enough.

And i can also have two different environment of add-ons, themes etc.

CentOS. I used it for 3 years in my first job. Our production servers were running the same version of CentOS.

Our leads thought it would be easier to debug issues if we developed on the same OS. So, about 4 of us were on CentOS.

Should say it got me hooked on Linux forever.

You can get yourself a free red hat or Sles developer subscription on the appropriate websites. Alpine makes a great docker host too

I use CentOS - but it’s a subjective question really.

What one finds great another might wince at the thought of using.
