So my plan was to buy 4 x 4tb wd reds. But then I saw a really great offer, and now I've ordered 4x 8tb Seagate ironwolf 😅

I have 4 4TB WD Reds in my Synology DS1515+. After 3 years, I have 1 that had bad sectors and they're replacing it for free. The others have been fine. Let me know what you think of the IronWolfs...I'm always scared to trust Seagate.

@Stebner55 can't say I've used them before, so yeah it's gonna be exciting. But I quickly calculated that I'd save a lot of money over the half a year, by buying these.

I already had plans to expand the storage, but now I won't have to for a long time 😅😂

Been using a Seagate IronWolf 4tb in my desktop for about a year now. Stable so far.

@olback very good to hear! This is the first time I'm setting up a proper storage server, so I'm a bit nervous how it's gonna hold up 😅

My big issue is I only have a 1 drive fault tolerance (the RAID array I chose to maximize storage) and I need drives I can trust. Everyone acts like WD = Intel and Seagate = AMD, so I went with WD.

    Eeeewwww seagate

@KasperNS yo seagate is junk and fails often

@skprog that is an incredibly childish response...

Nothing wrong with Seagate, it's the only brand I trust.

After ten years they still just work.

you can say bye bye to at least 2 of them already #alwaysfailing

I’ve had a few Seagate drives and they have honestly typically failed for me within 2 or 3 years, yet my friends can use them for 5 or 6 years without them failing. I’ve had better luck with WD, so I’ve stuck with them. Had my current ones for 5 years and 3 years, neither have failed for me yet.

Wish ya the best with those drives tho.

I can truly say that Seagate has better technology but somehow WD goes without any failure in long term use.

@alpy doesn't that makes it less better (technology) ?

    @alpy

It’s like those cheap devices from China that do everything but suck at it all. MP3, cd, fm radio, alarm clock, timer, calendar, porn streamer, etc and not one feature works flawlessly. Some people might say that’s better technology than an iPod but I’d say at least the iPod works.

@KasperNS its really not. Im just letting you fucking know. Seagate is shit. There barracuda drives have a fail rate of 80% after 2 years. And 100 % after 3

They have possibly got better in the last few years but have the least reliability for the last 5 years before 2016 https://backblaze.com/blog/...
