Double entry book keeping. Basically you keep track of debit and credit. Its is used very often to teach the concepts of event sourcing. Anyway, here is an implementation https://github.com/ledger/ledger

In hindsight, its overkill for most people. But having studied economics in school and university, this kind of accounting makes more sense to me. :)

But I bet your app would be useful to a lot of people. Good luck with the sales :)
