lxmcf204106y@beegC0de constant freezes and refuses to be updated to anything beyond 390.
I have nouveau installed now but was hoping something might be updated -
@lxmcf did u try the drivers directly from Nvidia? Curious because I recently bought a laptop with discrete GPU and igpu. It seems that people are having an easier time with it nowadays but maybe that isn't actually the case.
-
lxmcf204106y@beegC0de yep tried that and it constantly says I have an xorg server running even when I disable it at boot...
Could be my distro maybe?
Because I remember not having issues when using arch -
@lxmcf hmm. I'm trying out Fedora first because from what I've read people have got Nvidia Optimus working with the proprietary drivers in some form
-
lxmcf204106y@beegC0de well I'm running elementary at the moment but I seem to be the only person having this issue... Could be hardware potentially
-
TRex10386yNvidia proprietary drivers work fine just go into BIOS and turn secure boot off. It is recommend.
-
kjjdion106y@Haxk20 I mean I've seen some reaching before but saying you get better FPS with open source AMD drivers on Linux vs proprietary drivers on Windows is like saying you can outrun a Ferrari with a scooter.
That is some koolaid-level mental gymnastics. -
@kjjdion The open source drivers are from AMD itself so why not have the same performance? The difference is, AMD has the code open, NVIDIA does not.
-
kjjdion106y@Teabagging4Life there is a reason why Nvidia won't open source their drivers. If you think AMD beats Nvidia in any capacity I've got some bad news for you.
-
@kjjdion Well performance of AMD vs NVIDIA is a card problem, not a driver one. What is important here is whether AMD has the same performance on Windows as in Linux with open source drivers, I did not speak of NVIDIA performance at all since it has no open source drivers. Also what's the stated reason for not open sourcing by Nvidia?
-
kjjdion106y@Teabagging4Life really? The stated reason is that they would lose millions of dollars and AMD would just steal their tech. I mean holy shit.
-
@kjjdion Calm down I did not insult your mother. Why would they lose money? Their drivers are free, they just are not open. And they would have their technology stolen from the instructions to their machines?
Can anyone recommend a good OSS NVIDIA driver?
Was using nouveau but didn't realise how out of date it was, currently using the proprietary NVIDIA driver and it's really causing some havoc
