Just found out why my computer didn't sound like a jet engine anymore: Both of the video card's fans were dead, and it turns out they're kinda useful for not overheating during a game.

On a completely unrelated note, websites look really shitty at 480p.

The other fan of my gpu only spins when it's set to 100%. I wonder if that's the reason for artifacts when playing video or if my cpu oc is not stable.

My laptop does the bios beep and shuts down within 2 minutes of running if the fan cannot spin properly .-. Why is yours still even running with these issues.

@hasu luckily only prebuilts have those supervisions you can't turn off. And even those won't likely care about fans on expansion cards

@electrineer ok but shouldn't the temp sensors at some point kick in and shut it down?

@hasu at some point if throttling is not enough

@electrineer hm. Sounds like a pretty unsafe setup :/ even if self build, there should be automatic checks for these issues. Fans are important.

@hasu nah, thermal protections will handle everything just fine

@hasu This is on a desktop, which is far easier to cool usually.

I did some checks and the temperature actually stays tolerable in most situations.

I managed to get one of the fans to spin again though, and amazingly enough that thing keeps the GPU at 25C without much load.
