Swift4 + xCode9 =

I know the code is bad, I'm rushing it, but this IDE is driving me insane every step of the way

The problem with Swift is, that every major release it's pretty much a completely new language. I started with Swift 1 for fun, when Swift 2 was released I nearly had to rewrite my complete app. Same with every new release.

You may want to use guard statements
