Missed some of you. A lot of you really.

Anything exciting happen while I was gone?

I heard some of you formed a mob, dragged a spammer out behind the wood shed and beat em bloody.

Sad to say I missed that.

I'm currently eeking by financially, but got my plans for the fall winter and spring. Gym membership, rock climbing, prepping for a 5k. Weathers perfect for all of it.

I'm in a competition right now for some serious prize money and in the lead.

Enough to start that AI lab and finish my game.

Also, not everything is sunshine and roses. I sleep 3-6 hours a night average, (5-6 if I'm lucky), and horrible mood swings, with or without sleep. And isolation, damn the isolation is terrible, but my schedule is so hectic I basically have no room for any real-world contacts. I can barely make time for myself, let alone my family.

But I'm still writing poetry and music at least, and got my eye on some land for a cabin or other uses like for an office.

Whats going good/bad in your life?

I haven't heard from so many of you for so long.

Hey, cool to hear from you again!

    @Lensflare It's the sign-of-life signal.

With all the talk of devrant 'dying', I half expected, coming back, that no one would be here.

Love that its still a sort of low-bandwidth backchannel for talking with people long-term.

And for all the complaints of spam, I still get less spam here than I do in my emails (or notif spam anywhere else for that matter).

When I post here, I know reliably I can get ahold of at least some of the old gang.

    And thats all that matters.

Whats been going on on your end Lensflare?

Nice I've been going to the gym at least 4x a week for three years or so now and I feel fantastic. Myself, financially, I have close to 4 years worth of savings and am very seriously dabbling in the stock market.

Have you tried pre-workout yet? It seriously upped my performance.
  • 2
@Wisecrack well the spam is dealt with by my bots :]
They downvote 10 to 20 spam rants per day.

There is nothing noteworthy going on on my end, but thanks for asking :)

    @Wisecrack

So good to hear from you again, Wisecrack!
I don’t hang around here much either these days, but the moment I saw you were back, I jumped right in.

Life’s been wild — I finally got a serious girlfriend, and we moved in together 3 weeks ago… it’s been pure magic ever since 😅

I’ve turned into a cooking machine, biked all summer, and even started running lately. My heart’s loving it — 10/10, would recommend!

But life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows…
Last week, I lost the sweetest grandma in the world. So if you take just one thing from this, let it be this:
Make time for yourself and your loved ones. You’ll need those beautiful memories when times get tough. ❤️

Keep up the good vibes my friend! Good luck in the competition, I’m rooting for you! 💪🎉
    And waiting for your game!

    All the best my friend

We had a baby earlier this year and I’m on paternity leave until next year.

I’m working on personal projects because I can own my own IP while on leave. I’m hoping that I can turn one of them into something that makes money.

I love the isolation, but do need platforms like Snek / devrant (/ and a bit of reddit, but dislike the general culture there). I discovered that I like distant people more / fit more my needs than people in real life where you actually do not share interests with. It's a very quiet but stable life. Very peaceful not having much people around you and doing your own thing. Doing your own thing gives energy, that's maybe why you don't sleep that much. I have the same, i'm very sleep depraved but I just feel alright all the time. I have not much external factors so I stay very stable and positive. I do not visit sites with ads, no commercials on youtube (pay for it). There are no factors in my life that can ruin my day.

    What kind of competition?

Are you done flipping burgers at the burger king? I hope so, it's a waste for your doing, unless you like it. :P

Lack of sleep makes you stressed, stress makes you sleep less. That and having something to look forward to the next morning. Hope you're getting enough rest and having fun :D

For the contact, try calling a random contact while you're working on something, it can help. Good luck with the competition and hope you win

@AlgoRythm Nice. I'm really happy to hear you're in a decent place and all is going well.

What I do in my spare time is play slots at...

(oh no Wisecrack has been taken over by a spam bot).

    I jest.

Glad to hear you're doing okay Algo!

@retoor "What kind of competition? "

RSA prize. I have an actual god damn shot this time.

"there are no factors that can ruin my day."

That is such a fantastic place and head space to be in. I hope it continues indefinitely for you mate.

    @irene congratu-fucking-lations!

Nothing is closer to the pure balance achieved between the joy of new family, and the stress of new family.

What kind of projects you working on if you don't mind me asking?

@figoore "but the moment I saw you were back, I jumped right in."

    Damn, much love figoore!

Always makes my day to read or hear someone that found a serious partner in crime and hijinx.

Your seasonal activities are pretty much a copy of my own. Good vibes all around mate.

How far have you gone on the bike?

Sorry to hear about your grandma. I'll light a cigarettes for her.

@Lensflare I'm ashamed I took nearly a month to respond.

Whats going on on your end? How you been doing?
  • 2
@Wisecrack no need to be ashamed. I‘m doing good. Business as usual. My current personal project is a WTF Meter app (see one of my rants) 😁
  • 2
@Lensflare WTF Meter app looks cool.

Wonder if theres been any actual legit studies into wtf-counts (or similar) in correlation to code quality?
  • 2
@Wisecrack no idea about such studies but it would be interesting for sure!
  • 2
@Lensflare Sounds like an opportunity to do an informal or tongue-in-cheek study with some co-workers, post to arxiv, and in turn share that on hackernews.

I bet there would be plenty of discussion that follows from it.
  • 2
@Wisecrack that would also probably make at least some people aware of that app's existence, which will otherwise most certainly be completely unknown.

Problem is, I hate doing this kind of work.

@Lensflare Offer $3.50 to a passing office employee to use it, and add a button to email results.

offer a chocolate muffin to the fastest person in the office.

tell the new guy "it'll make a good impression here if you participate in morale building."

Gather data for 3-5 days. Thats all you need.
