I finally finished building my desktop to the specs I want!

I bought NZXT's Nuka-Cola themed case & mobo cover when they were announced. I've been planning this build for a while, but:

My laptop fell off a bench (while in my backpack) a couple months ago and the screen broke, so I bought this nice CHG70 from Samsung and put on top of it. That worked fine for a while, but within a couple weeks that laptop also stopped sending a display signal.

Having already dropped a lot of money on the monitor of my dreams and not being able to bear returning it after having it in front of me, I decided, Fuck It; I'll just build the whole PC I've been planning on right now.

Except, I wasn't ready. Had to start out with a Ryzen 2400g. Then got an RX580 on sale for $200. This week was when I swapped the Gigabyte B350M DS3H & 2400g for NZXT N7 Z370 & i7 8700k

Oh, and I started using PrimoCache because managing a 256GB SSD & 1TB HDD manually is annoying as fuck.

Oh jeez. Don’t tell me your build is sponsored by coolermaster... why use 212 in such an expensive case 😱

@sunfishcc I'm not overclocking the CPU so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe I'll put a water cooler in there later on, but it'll be a real custom loop so that I can add the GPU to it when I upgrade that.

@svgPhoenix not familiar with building vega series. Does the cooler not include?

@sunfishcc All Ryzen processors include coolers, but I'm not using that Ryzen 2400g anymore. The Hyper 212 is cooling an i7 8700k that I had to buy to put in the NZXT N7 Z370 motherboard that I had to buy to put under the NZXT N7 Nuka-Cola motherboard cover that I bought to match the case.

@svgPhoenix very high end setup 👍

    @sunfishcc 😄
The 580 is really a mid-range card. The only reason I got the 8700k is to delay the inevitable necessary upgrade since an upgrade to it will mean losing the pretty motherboard cover

@svgPhoenix full covered motherboard is more like a show piece😻

@sunfishcc even more so than my gaudy ass keyboard? 🤔😆

@svgPhoenix rgb keyboard is nothing new. But very rare to see major motherboard companies make full covered motherboard. The thermal pad for m2 hard drive sometimes make things worse.

@sunfishcc the m.2 covers can't be replaced once there are drives in the slots. They're hidden relatively well anyway under the heat sink and the GPU.

And yeah RGB keyboard is nothing new but this one only has plastic on the top of the switch so you can see the whole thing glowing rather than just a small light under the letters :rainbow_vomit:

@svgPhoenix my ryzen 7 2700 is running slower than I expected. I’m considering to get an aio water cooler for overlooking. But it’s summer now, my room is very hot 🤦‍♂️
  • 1
@sunfishcc 2700 or 2700X? And it's better to overclock in the summer than to push the limits in cold weather and then be unable to sustain the same temps and speeds with higher ambient temperature.

@svgPhoenix 2700. There’s not much price difference between them, but I thought it could save power. Didn’t expect the frequency is this low🤦‍♂️
  • 1
@sunfishcc yeah there's a reason it has a lower power rating lol

@svgPhoenix I need to switch it on 24/7. And I had the wrong impression which amd runs very hot. This cpu runs with stock cooler runs almost 20C cooler than intel i7700 with stock cooler from dell

@sunfishcc yeah Ryzen runs decently cool. Their graphics cards are still hot though
