@Codex404 It's relegated to a plugin, which makes clear what its future is. If you look at the overall roadmap, this is only the beginning, and the classic editor plugin is only a temporary bandaid.
-
@Fast-Nop i know, but if they are not allowed to remove it at all then how would they make progress? This might give wordpress the chance to becone a good CMS.
-
@Codex404 The thing is that change is a necessary precondition for progress, but not a sufficient one. And it's also a necessary precondition for regress as well.
I mean, I could well start to use my desk for shitting on instead of my toilet, that would also be change, but I wouldn't call it progress. -
@Fast-Nop depends on what you are trying to achieve. Do you have a lack of time in the day, then shitting on your desk is really efficient.

hitko31456yWhy can't WordPress just die and burn? It's a fucking blogging platform, why do you have to abuse it for everything else? And if the whole ecosystem is trying to make WordPress something it's not, perhaps developers should at least listen and give them what they need to make better & faster plugins (idk, a decent cache and some schema-driven ORM would be a good place to start?)
-
hitko31456yAnd obviously new editor is the top priority, since WordPress.com started losing to Medium, and that's where they get all the money from... But yeah, let's do this and make another block editor because the existing 10 aren't enough, instead of making it easier for developers to make efficient high-quality extensions for the platform.
-
@hitko I think WP.com also perceives sitebuilders like Squarespace and Wix as competitors. Maybe legit, but even if so, the right move would be to add a new audience without alienating the existing users.
The good thing about all of that is that they disrupt the status quo. I remember the times when web designers coaxed every little static brochure site owner into using WordPress although it didn't really make sense. -
@Fast-Nop I agree that change should happen but they went about it the wrong way. It's crazy that the plugin to revert it already has a million downloads. Pretty obvious they messed up this release.
-
@devrocket the underlying problem seems to be that Automattic makes money solely from WP.com while most "serious" users choose self-hosting based off of WP.org.
-
@Fast-Nop they probably make some income from woocommerce premium extensions but those are super easy to find online for free. Makes sense that would be their motivation.

The WordPress Gutenberg editor is now starting to hit unsuspecting users who havn't been following up with the preview phase. They mostly hate it, and the arrogance from the WP pricks is stunning.
My favourite quote from WP.org admin Otto: "This is the future editor in WordPress. It is happening. There's no stopping that train now. People thinking that they can somehow stop the train are people who are standing in front of a train. That never really ends well."
Yeah you little dipshit, do you know what did end FUCKING well? Not having put myself on your bloody track in the first place so that I can sit back and enjoy my popcorn! :-)
