they should make it harder to avoid buying it the it's decent software

they actually make huge bucks from corporate offices that use winrar, and these days they've started earning from referrals to other services

you sign up for ABC site, ABC site pays winrar for each new user. If they straight away started charging their end users no one would have given a shit about the software and it never would have become this large and this omnipresent, but the question from me is, how does devRant make money?

a shout out to @dfox to help answer this one then!

@leviathan07 if ads start appearing in devRant, I will blame you.

I hate ads!!!!! If devRant started using ads I don't know what I would do.

@guyfork86 Pay for pro? I'm sure plenty of us would. Even if there were no ads but a donation option

How come WinRAR is still so common, when you can just get 7zip for free and never see a nag screen again?

@adbo , I dont think donations work. I recently stumbled on a very popular library used by millions of people for JSON in .Net and it was donation ware. Over past years I reckon less than a thousand dollar was donated. If it was pay to use with a price of $1 that would've been 2 million dollars right there

@abdo I would pay for devRant no questions asked and I also have paid for the winRar pro. Ever since I discovered it back in school (15 years ago ) I've never used anything else. Personally I think it's better than winzip and 7zip.

@guyfork86 It really depends what you want to do with it. I didn't realise how powerful the command line tools were for it.

As versatile as WinRAR is as a software with its robust command line features, sadly 9 out of 10 versions of it available for download on the net is rigged with a massive malware which will turn your computer into a zombie which will end up joining one or more botnets. There ia even talks about the original file and even the pro being rigged as well.

The moral of the story, use 7Zip!

Intel should back WinRAR with big bucks!

    From the $1700 10-core i7-6950X review:
"If your job is to package files all day, with winrar, then this cpu is a no-brainer!”
