Joined small scale-up months ago. I literally want to punch one of my coworker. Constant mental harassement, self-declared lead, rude and impolite. That coworker is socially awkward in the baddest and meanest way.

Founders seems to not give a crap even if they told me they want a flat hierarchy. They let that coworker off the hook.

Not even mentioning that culture of oppression and repression.

If you're late you must bring chocolate and they'll remind you 256 times a day. Oh boy, I'm not late... I just don't want to come in the office.

Also, the code is atrocious.

What seemed like a dream job at first turned out to be a nightmare. Never been bullied since I started working. Now, I have a bully and a nemesis.

In these situations you could wish for the universal basic income. Not to have to worry for rent and food. And if you're in the mood you could do some freelance gigs to upgrade your income. *sigh*

@heyheni But from where would that income come from? Working people? How many would actually work if you could just slack off and get paid for existing? It would require extremely low maintenance robots doing most of the jobs for this to be realistic long term.

I recon it will be available as soon as we get universal basic (robotic) pussy for everyone.

@arraysstartat1 Capitalism has created imense wealth and comfort over the last 300 years. In the last 100 years the income per capita increased 30 fold in the U.K. as an example. (graph picture)

But capitalism is profoundly unfair and unsustainable. 6 People hoard half of the worlds wealth while destroying the only planet we have with their businesses. This means the money is there, but there is a huge inequality in the distribution of that wealth.

Capitalism created a lot of pointless unfulfilling nonsense jobs. What if those with bullshit jobs were able to do something useful instead with their time? Like founding a business without fear of failure?

With a universal basic income there is no need for other social programms. If you scrap those a lot of money will be available. High VAT tax is a way to fund this.

Also never underestimate the human need for recognition and greed. There will be always people who want more.

The universal basic income may never become to fruition because of the lack of imagination of ordinary people. But I hope that at least the 42h work week will be reduced by half with the same pay of today.

@heyheni I didn't write this but UBI is such an interesting idea.

Unfortunaly I don't think we can implement this with our current society state... we, as developers, are in a perfect position to understand this.

We rolled with capitalism so hard that we literally accumulated too much technical debt. Trying to fix and/or migrate to a transcapitalism would likely just make the bug surface larger.

What do •we• do when a system has so much technical debt we can't maintain it anymore? Yep, throw away / modularize / deep refactor / ... etc. But we all know the only true solution is to go scratch again.
