Hey security peeps how do you think group chats are security protected? Are they really end to end encrypted?

    I saw a YouTube video which explained why it's much more difficult than a chat between two persons.

    Depends on the messenger. Some do not have E2E for groups.

    WhatsApp? Yes.
    Telegram? No.
    Signal? Of course.
    Threema? Yes.
    XMPP? Only with OMEMO.
    ...

    I do trust the Signal protocol.

    Internally, group chats are just messages encrypted for multiple recipients.

    @iKameo Signal is open source.

    @iKameo As far I know, the Signal author helped WhatsApp to implement their encryption and Threema was reverse engineered.
    OMEMO is the Signal protocol for XMPP where most of the implementations are open source.

    @iKameo Go read the source, dummy.
    That's all the hard facts you need.
