    Why would someone at cern do such a thing? I thought they had something more meaningful to do.

    E: I read a couple sentences from the link. Makes sense now.

    Yea. That's a rebuilt for contemporary Webbrowsers.
    The original and first one could not be fully replicated / built as a usable thing because the hardware for public access is missing. (you know, the 80s machines)

    @scor that's true the old hardware especially the monitors were bad
