Well today I feel like shit so I called in sick. Found out the lead developer called in sick as well.

The thing is, there was something really important to be done today that he fucking new that if he was not to be there I was going to get shit from everyone. He is going through some shit right now and I get it, so I would normally cut him some slack.

But fuck man, at some point you got to man the fuck up and deal with your job, if anything do it for your fucking coworkers/friends. He fucking new that I was going to get a fuckload of bullshit over something that he takes care of.

Nevermind that there are only 2 fucking developers for the entire fucking campus(2 campuses actually) and we were told last friday that we were needed. Normally, one would put up with the bullshit and make a presence, but that one of us is always me. Today I said fuck it, its too cold, don't feel good and I don't want to take my daughter to the daycare.

Today I sit at home, go over my OS books, play Skyward Sword with my daughter, watch movies with her and I don't think about work for one second.

On another note, the reason why I need to go through my OS books is that a good portion of my masters degree(which I am to start on August) covers OS development, it seems that the entire curriculum will be C/C++ galore which makes me FUCKING STOKED! finally a break form web development that I can probably use to get me out of web development professionally as well.

Dude, if you've both sick they isn't his problem, that's the higher ups problem, if there is an absolute need to have cover in unusual situations then they need to look at options like external agencies, or hiring a third developer, as 2 is just too risky.

OH and I am going to post this here, I thought it goes without saying, but just in case:

The reason why it pissed me off that he didn't show up to work today other than to leave me to deal with all the bullshit is that I KNOW FOR A FACT that: he is not sick, he is not dealing with anything major right now, there are no emergencies for him right now.

He just felt like not going <---- and on the process did not feel like giving a shit for his coworkers.

@Redders i am sickly(ish) but I am more concerned about my daughter going out in this cold.

And we have been begging for another 2 developers for the longest time man. To be fair tho, we rarely got shit to do. But when it rains it pours!

So we basically don't have much to do and get paid really good. That is the major reason why shit like this happens.

@AleCx04 yeah, I guess you ideally need a few freelancers who can do day rate work at short notice, who mainly work on projects to their own schedule, letting them come in when they are needed without hurting their other clients.

@Redders that is the beauty of it: we really can't hire anyone external.

We deal with student information(we work for a college) and other high sensitive data. The only contracts that we get to pass to third party vendors are very small stuff, like design for websites (we currently have 2 for our CMS) and things related to the database management system we use. But as far as working with my department: no go, 100% no go.

Which is why we push so much for hiring someone else to join the team.

This is why i love being on a limitless home office contract

@ganjaman ye basterd, now u just being cocky :P

Dude I am thorn between finding something similar or to continue working the way I am. I really can't complain about work at all and really like it there. Its just that this dude pissed me off cuz it was basically telling me to go fuck myself when he is supposed to be my friend and shit.

You know id lowkey apply to ur place if it
1)wasnt on the other sida globe
    2)wasnt php

@ganjaman We get to implement a lot of stuff in whatever we want. But there are 2 langs that are absolutely necessary(due to legacy): php and Java.

Our Java stack is mainly on maintenance mode. Some old JSP services. Our php stack is gigantic and it has a lot of material to make people that already dislike php hate it even more.

We also use a fuckload of JS. Other than Java, this place sounds like a nightmare for ya.

One thing I can say tho is that the fact that we deal with a lot of php is the reason why we barely have anything to do. By the time devs in other stacks are done starting a project we already finished and pushed to prod.
