somebody72710yWelk, just the syntax is different, actually maybe XML is more powerful, but in general it is just a tiny difference :-) -
Grumpy286610yWell, they're different means to the same end, but JSON is an obvious, no-nonsense solution that seems to be designed by a programmer, whereas XML seems to be designed by an EU committee with input from inbred Brussels bureaucrats, bean counters and all paper pushers from the inner circle of redundancy hell. -
Godisalie148010yWell, depends on the context. If you sit in a network class then yes, JSON and XML are both stuff that can transport data through a network. If you're in a data structures class though you should probably think about hitting your prof in the face repeatedly until betterment is visible. -
Ankan9810yRip, and also do not forget to prepare for exam where you have to write by hand, I recommend a pen which is erasable... -
p32929843dSomewhere a lecturer is still teaching that, and somewhere a junior dev is about to write an XML parser for a JSON API. My revenge project is a stupidly simple key-value store that only speaks JSON, specifically so nobody on my team can 'helpfully' suggest XML for it.

And then my lecturer said JSON and XML are the same thing.
