As a lifelong Windows user who recently started using a Mac (for iOS dev), I have to say, my mind is blown. I now get the Mac hype.

Same here with the hype, though I'm win/lin user. At least they provide a C compiler, not like windows and the look is quite good too. Nowadays buying a mac for software development seems reasonable. Mac+VirtualBox is a solid combination.

But iOS is still for me in the category "Symbian and worse" for user experience. No tweaking, customizability, no nothing and pay for everything. I'm afraid even this win10 beast is going to become the same.

I dont use vms as they are heavy, I prefer dockers and cross platform techs for development which doesnt use any additional layer to achieve it I hope you know what I mean here ;)

@rookiemaverick dockers interest me, can you get ms SQL in a docker container?

@philcr dont store any thing inside docker instead attach a volume to docker so that your data will be persistant without commiting docker container to new image.

I've not tried docker too much, but I want to. My current machines are a MacBook Pro Retina 2013, a hackintosh tower with 40" UHDTV for a monitor, and a Lenovo Flex 3 with Win10/Ubuntu 16.10 Gnome3/RemixOS tripleboot just for funsies.

I use my Macs and my Ubuntu machine for all my development via Vagrant and Scotchbox. My Macs are the design machines and I use the Ubuntu machine for mostly development.

I use RemixOS for a 15" tablet experience! Lol.

I love to tinker with machines. Of all the machines, my Lenovo gets a lot of love recently.

windows is not a hard os to beat. Linux still wins overall objectively looking.
