What do you need 24 focken gigs of ram for? Some high res video editing? Asking, since for coding you need like a gig tops.
-
@dontPanic really depends on his text editor preference. My vscode uses almost a gig of ram lol, that's why I switched to vim

rantbook7326yWindows and Chrome will find a way to hinder you. I have had 2 gigs, 4, 8 and now 16.
I swear Chrome and Windows just take the same percentage of any RAM -
@dontPanic My Laptop has 32 GB and I really need it.
A) For some Cross-Platform projects I have a Windows 10 VM with Visual Studio and some debugging tools like Dr.Memory.
B) For another project I have three VMs with different musl-libc based profiles. Personally I prefer glibc, but supporting musl has some real benefits.
C) I am a Gentooer. And with 32GB I am not fucked if, during an update, GtkWebkit or QtWebengine are built while I am working with any of the VMs running.
D) RAM is never useless and will always be filled with buffers and caches. Even on a full SSD system you'll feel having more RAM.
As my CTO regularly says:
"RAM is quality of life!" -
Froot75396y@xugS6fz6A7P8cL5 you switched to vim from VSCode because of its ram usage? Are you coding on a raspberry pi zero?
"I had this nice house but it had two chimneys instead of one. That's why I now live in a tent"
Got my tax return and am upgrading the ram in my PC from 8GB to 24GB. Can't wait to run even more tabs in Chrome!
