About the Huawei not being allowed in Play Store. Just remember that Xiaomi was shipping devices without Google services installed, but it had the single click "Install Google Play Services" app.

Anyway, can I send a bill for my dad's phone to Donald Trump?

    If you have a custom-recovery, you can just install them via OpenGapps

    Oh, yeah.
    I remember.

    You’re missing the point. If Huawei users are revoked access to Google Services it doesn’t matter how you install it because it won’t work.

    @620hun nah, it will, if not without some fiddling, I've installed GPlay on numerous of tablets that don't have the license and thus won't come with it standard...

    Just brought back a Huawei phone i bought 5 days before the shit started, no matter if there are workarounds. It makes it a no-future device and in my opinion just lost value as it lost parts of the ecosystem it is designed for. Went for OnePlus as it seems a solid option, small enough to not fear the shit out of US economists pissed about 5G and local market shares.

    True,but based in the opensource Part of Android with own Firmware and they do not own network hardware section that pissed Cisco :)

    @xewl @irene yes, that is currently the case. I’m saying that Google could ban unlicensed users if it comes to it.

    @irene how what?

    @irene based on the IMEI. Yes, I’m sure you can also change that somehow, but at a certain point you’re just better off buying a phone that works out of the box.

    @irene you don’t have to doubt it, it’s something that you can very easily find out

    @620hun @irene

    Google. Duh

    An IMEI is similar to a serial number since it is a unique number linked to a hardware device.While serial numbers are generated by the manufacturer, IMEI numbers are produced by the GSMA (Groupe Spéciale Mobile Association), an international organization that oversees mobile network operators. The GSMA provides each mobile device manufacturer with a range of numbers to use for IMEIs on devices the produce.

    does this affect already-made devices?

    @irene why would it be a client side check? How do you log a user in? Ask the server to provide the password and compare on the client?
  • 0
    @irene what? They’re already doing that.
