Why does DO take so long for but on-site VMware snapshots are done in a minute or two for drives with hundreds of TB?

That's strange.
One of out oldest VM host takes a few minutes for that. And this server is 10 years old. What kind of servers are still used at Digital Ocean? -
@arcsector @sbiewald Yeah I've got no idea... I'd assume there's some sort of queue. The snapshot ended up taking 2.5h and totalling ~85gb. Perhaps compression? After all, snapshots only cost $0.05/gb/m.

Fuuuuck I'm an idiot. Decided to take a snapshot of our production server at DigitalOcean. It's a 260gb drive, so as far I can see this will be running all night. Someone will fucking kill me...
