@FuckJava to be completely fair and serious for a moment tho, windows uses slashes in paths differently to unix, maybe she used to be a linux flavor user? Cause we use \ to unescape a character and / to navigate, while I believe Windows uses \ to navigate and can only accept quoted paths to unescape special characters. Its been a long time since I used the windows cmd for anything tho

Well, a Software engineer does not need to know this stuff, per definition. They need to know the different kinds of software architectures, when to use them and how to combine them. And they must know how to draw UML ;)
Of course it would be practical to have deeper knowledge, but for their job it is not necessary. At least if their SE job is a SE job according to real SE and not some job-mixup that the company just calls SE (seen it before).
A real architect must not know how the concrete is mixed. He must just know how the different kinds of concrete behave. -

Will you trust an architect who does NOT know how concrete is made to design your dwelling? I won't. In the same sense that I will not trust a "Software Engineer" who can not make a directory from Windows Command Prompt with turning my bathroom's lights off. -
@FuckJava I think you may have a too big ego, Like why tf wouldn't you explain something to her. Okay she didn't learn it while becoming a software engineer but I bet she got some other skills that are better than yours.
For example, I know a few Software Engineers and Architects who can design some serious clean code projects without touching the command prompt. The only thing they need is their tools. -

I meant, I am too old to explain to a "Software Engineer" if it's NW-SE this and if it's NE-SW that. Maybe you as a young and energetic man can do it. I need people who actually know what happens inside the mysterious box under their desks, not people who became "Software Engineers" because they could install a game on their Windows machines as a kid. -

Yeah, I can understand now, I remember when I started getting my first degree that a lot of folks were there because they liked gaming but they sucked and dropped out eventually.

I agree with @FuckJava - if someone calls himself/herself a 'Software Engineer' then that person not knowing difference between forward slash and backslash is outrageous.
Heck, so called self-proclaimed software engineers don't even know the difference between a URL path and a file system path. I've encountered such people and BOY! Their attitude! -
