You going to be using Qt? On windows a Qt install can be 40GB, on Linux the same install is 8GB. No idea what it would be on Mac.
I just bought a Windows machine last November and put a 1TB SSD in it. With games and dev tools I am at nearly 500GB used. YMMV. -
lxmcf199505yI run a 2018 with 256GB and haven't had any issues with storage?
If you plan on using the laptop as your main computer go the higher storage else go the lower, save the money -
@Demolishun no idea what qt is and im not gonna use it for any games, just work and coding
@lxmcf i wanted to get a 2018 one but the guy selling me this laptop at a cheaper price said there are no 13" 2018 variations without a touch bar. No one likes touch bar
@24th-Dragon so what do u suggest and why -
@SukMikeHok Qt is a cross platform development system for desktop and mobile. It can target iOS, Android, PC, Mac, Linux, and more.

CptFox16165y2017, these have soldered SSDs, right ? I'd go with don't get anything with soldered SSD at all, but if you really need a recent Mac (recent enough that the SSD has to be soldered), I'd say go for 512, since you won't be able to upgrade later. If older is fine too, I love my retina MBP (2015 I think), and can change the SSD anytime with just a few screwdrivers, so maybe consider these :)

I had to move from a 256 to a 512 at work. That's my main though. Having the headroom can be nice aswell, and some stuff can actually take up quite a bit of space. As from what I've heard the touch bar is very useful for scrubbing YouTube videos. Period.

I know this is not what you asked, but unless you're developing in xcode, it's not a great time to buy a Mac. I've spent the past year on a Mac, except for the path month where I've switched back to try WSL2, and you know what? Id argue I'm having a better dev experience than I did on Mac

I have a 256 gig MBP, and I'd appreciate to have extra space sometimes. Coding Kotlin, Swift and React Native.

delete195yThey keyboard on the latest ones are actually quite nice. They put some dampening in.
I don’t see the new macs as fragile?
Anyway I went for 512, my old 256 filled up but I had a bunch of large Postgres DBs on it. -
@delete They're still not great and break easily (apparently even with the new design changes). You should look up Louis Rossmann on youtube. IIRC touchbar macbooks die if they get a drop of water anywhere near them because the smc gets a nice dose of 24 volts or something stupid
Should i get a macbook pro no touchbar 2017 with 512 GB SSD or is 256 GB fine enough? Only for coding primarily focused on mobile development
