nibor48135yWhy the webcam? This would be a big red flag for me. Do they only want to employ good looking, white men? I would reply saying I am happy to do online tests, but I don't have a webcam.
-
@stop How the fuck would they ensure no one cheats that way? I can come up with several ways there. There's just no point for the applicant to cheat if they don't have the skill needed.
-
Sid45971555y@Abrynos sir I don't know where you come from but big companies don't got time for nobody especially not when there are 1.3 billion programmer around you.
-
Sid45971555yI think the idea is to confirm that you're
a) not cheating
b) the same person applying for the job who's giving the exam -
@Sid4597 In big companies, getting hired is a full time job in itself with a ridiculous amount of tests and shit. I wouldn't accept a Google offer because of the hassle.

stop68025y@kescherRant i needed to install their software(which was buggy as hell, see my rant https://devrant.com/rants/1881494/... ), start the app at an appointed time, Show the examiner the room(no one else allowed to be in at the hole time), then take the exam. After that i got an confirmation and my points.

dr-ant13445yUpdate:
I decided to at least give the test in a dark room because I had already told the recruiter that I would take the test in the heat of the moment (don't know why I do that sometimes). 😓
Went to the the link, couldn't confirm if it's for the company I'm applying for (no communication from the company/zero company branding), the terms and conditions were sketchy and it wanted to record and take a picture from a Google cloud app. I just noped out of it and replied to the recruiter that I'm not comfortable with it and I'm available for an on premise test. She just called and said that's not an option and I said I'm not interested then. Feeling so much better!
Thanks all!
I think @Abrynos is right after how she told me that on premise test isn't possible. -
@stop Over the webcam? I'd refuse to do that. Making a selfie with your passport or any other ID poses way too many risks.
-
stop68025y@kescherRant how would you identify someone who takes an online-exam? My id is the only one that is possible and the onlinefunction on it is for an us-company not available, because the security required stands in no relation to the usefulness
-
I mean, technically the company I am interning at also requires you to take an online exam. But unsupervised. They don't ever require your ID.
-
dr-ant13445y@stop usually the companies that take online exams do it as a first step. It's usually given that it'll be an open book test.
Later rounds should reveal if the person who got tested is suitable for the job. -
You'll never know if you don't try, and you'll always regret that you didn't.
A lot of times you'll also regret if you *did* but thats a whole different set of problems.

What do you think of online tests (for hiring) with a mandatory webcam?
The webcam part is making me anxious enough to back out.
