“Your time zone is not my concern” - manager of the backend team

I asked if there’s another way for us to get test data into QA. That doesn’t involve us staying on until 9pm to get a backend dev to modify the db manually, everyday.

    Why the fuck can't they script it? And why do they need to modify it every fucking day?

    @asgs because

    “you don’t understand how big the system is”

    ... isn’t it obvious?

    @practiseSafeHex, that arg is BS. If the system is so legacy and so brittle or convoluted, it shouldn't be allowed to take any new features

    I understand that it is much easier said than done, but people need to wake up. Setting up the environment and certifying changes shouldn't be the big consumer of time

    @asgs yeah totally. If only it was 5 months old instead of 6, maybe there would have been hope. I guess it just passed the legacy threshold and we have to deal with it

    Cool. 18:00 -- pack your stuff, set mobile to flight mode and go home. It's not his concern

    @netikras This. If they don't care about your time zone, they gave you permission not to care about theirs. Make sure you use exactly the words they used when they demand to know why things aren't going as expected. Even better if you have the interaction recorded or in writing so you've covered yourself in case of complaints to higher-ups.
