So I walk up to my desk, join the zoom meeting for daily stand ups, and then join the other meeting scheduled by the CEO. And I watched a presentation built around how I'll be fired in the next few minutes. My colleagues and I got laid off in the snap of a finger.
Sad much

In my first job, the smallish company got into financial trouble and had to lay off people. They didn't fire based on performance, but with a social plan. Being single with no family, that meant I was out.

Fast forward a few days, within the notice period: company wide status presentation of various projects, with CEO attending. The project I and a few others were in was highlighted because unlike the rest, it had delivery before deadline, cost below budget, tech performance above customer expectation. CEO was impressed.

Loud comment from a sales guy: cool, and ALL of the engineers responsible for this project are fired!

    CEO looked pissed off, haha!

@chuxmykel Yeah that was pretty hilarious. That sales guy was well known for his low opinion on the CEO, but he couldn't be fired because his sales performance was more than two times of any other in the sales department.

@Fast-Nop Lmao. I hope the decision was reverted tho. 😂

@chuxmykel No, it wasn't. However, nobody complained because they handed out one month salary per year of job tenure as severance payment.

When a company is struggling, it's better to be among the first people fired because who knows whether there would be that much money left over later.

@Fast-Nop Lol. Well. Good for you then. I wish I could see a silver lining I'm my case 😢
