I love coming home from classes to get some work done on my setup.
My thought is; if I'm going to be sitting here for hours at a time working, may as well make it a comfortable environment.

@navster it's an LG34UM95-P.
Great panel, 34" 3440x1440. Plenty of room for use.
Pair it with Windows 10s virtual desktops and it's really the only single monitor I need

@kalpitjain not at all actually, it's all back lighting so nothing directly in the eyes.
I just turn the monitor brightness down past half way and I'm set, very little strain on the eyes

To the far right I have an Elgato Avea smart bulb, controlled over Bluetooth from my tablet, has multiple mood lighting settings, under the desk I have some multi colored LED strips mounted along the frame for some subtle back lighting, and to the far left I have a salt lamp, primarily for the color it gives off, not many LED strips can achieve that sort of warm orange hue.
It's great cause I can change up the colors of my setups easily to match the wallpaper on my display, really flexible and comfortable

@Gauthier Ya I know :/ I need a new keyboard and mouse; though I do like the feel of the Apple keyboard key press. I'm waiting to see the rumoured Surface keyboard&mouse that Microsoft may release in the coming month

@nicnaknic Problem being that the comfortable stuff doesn't look as slick :/

@Gauthier that's why I'm waiting for Microsoft's new keyboard. Hoping it functions well a isn't to uncomfortable. The other option is mechanical keyboards, but I want something wireless and those cost a hell lot. For now this works, but I do hope to update sometime soon

@Gauthier ahaha nice, overseen those before. More ergonomic, but looks strange. Comfortably keyboards are nice but not always necessary, I just want one that works better and maybe has some wrist cushions

@nicnaknic Correct. In my case it was needed. My pinkies started to hurt, I had to do something, and this saved me. Took a little while to get used to, but now I touch type even the number row.

@Gauthier ouch, that's rough. I more more of an arched stance when I type so my pinky sits off to the side a fair bit

@nicnaknic I have a case of Dramatic Enter Punch Syndrome. (end of command line input -> BAM-enter.) Plus reaching to tab and control all the time, instead of using two hands for key chords. Ctrl, alt, win, delete, backspace, enter, all on thumbs makes very much sense.

@Gauthier very true. I often have to shuffle my hand over to hit shortcuts like Win+tab. But those types of shortcuts are typically for navigating windows so I don't generally use them while programming.
I haven't come across many uses for keyboard shortcuts while programming anyways, besides maybe compile/Run, C/P (etc) the basics. I do enjoy a rather compact keyboard so I can access various side keys easily.
It would be nice how ever to have tab and enter In different locations though

@nicnaknic Do you use the mouse instead of shortcuts? I mean, I cut/copy, search, move cursor wordwise, all the time, these require chords. Not to mention all kind of parens, *, ", #,...

@Gauthier ya I use the mouse a lot. Haven't really spent much time learning shortcuts since they often change on the IDEs I use.
Probably should spend some time to learn them, especially in VS which I use the most. Im a student so I haven't really had to yet write anything over 1000 lines, but once the projects get larger I'm sure short cuts will be the best say to go

@nicnaknic Yeah, you'll find learning one editor very well is useful. Emacs, vim, visual source code, atom, sublime... doesn't really matter what you choose, but once you start flying through code you'll see the time spent learning was worth it.

@Gauthier ya I have to use the console based version of emacs in one of my classes. Which is navigated 100% with the keyboard and shortcuts. Quite annoying until you get the hang of it, but even still I enjoy having the option to use a mouse if needed.
