asgs115635yA question to the Slack
In any case, reducing the chit chat within the Corporate network to a minimum is the best course of action -
We are using free version of slack. I guess I can just create a workspace and check this out for myself, but was just wondering wether someone knows this for sure.
-
Found the answer so sharing with anyone else interested. Here's a good article I found describing this
https://mashable.com/2017/10/...
I went to that yourteam.slack.com/account/team section called retention and found this
"What data can my admins access?
Public data can be exported
Workspace Owners and Admins can export messages and files from public channels. Learn more"
So basically my employer can export only public channel stuff, not private. If he wants direct messages he needs to upgrade to an enterprise plan or higher. -
@zemaitis @jespersh I read the second link a bit different:
"For companies using Slack channels on free or Standard plans, administrators can still request private messages and other data. However, they must provide Slack with valid legal process, consent of members or a requirement or right under applicable laws." -
Yes at least our IT manager can see because he is the Slack admin. He can also see the emails though.
-
In the end, your org also has control over sign-in account they can reset it's password and login in as you and see the messages unless I am missing something
-
Root825575yYes / maybe.
Admins (maybe only on certain payment tiers and above?) can "download all content" (I believe that's the option text) which includes direct messages and group chats. It's a bit of a pain, but it's totally possible. I don't know if this also includes deleted messages.
If you want to keep something private from your employer, don't post it on something your employer has access to, let alone controls. -
Are you all sure that on a free workspace plan you can see direct messages as an admin?
