IT dept releases update for Cisco Jabber for work environment and describes it as a minor update.

Me installs new version...
- completely new UI
- loses saved login credentials
- loses connected devices
- loses all settings
- loses history

My definition of "minor" is "slightly" different

Backup everything even with "minor" updates because otherwise, it's a PBCAK.

@kescherRant Wrong. Losing settings and data on an update is the responsibility of the developer.

It's just laziness and bad practice to blame the user for the applications lack of data migration between versions. Being it the usual case today doesn't make it any better.

And BTW, how do you backup and restore data from Ciscos Jabber? It doesn't provide a backup/restore function. And let the user search for files for manual backup is also a no-go. And if it was as easy as saving and restoring a file or two, they could easily incorporate it in the update process. So it's presumably more complex.

I agree that devs should not introduce changes that delete all your shit. If backups are made impossible (fuck Cisco in that case), well, then it is indeed not your fault.
