Awkward holiday party story?

A lot of times during holiday parties, I meet new people.

Afterwards, often a quick group chat is created to share pictures with all the people there.

Every goddamn time we come at this point again where this is done and since WhatsApp is nearly considered a requirement to function in society (Netherlands) and I refuse to use it and other mainstream media...

The moment that I have to explain why I don't use WhatsApp arrives, yet again. I don't find it awkward anymore but it doesn't improve the atmosphere and getting called paranoid for the rest of the party also isn't the most fun thing ever!

In the end I usually get the pictures emailed.

    I just don't ask for the pictures. I never have that issue with semi strangers.

    @TheCommoner282 On my own hardware I'm just not going to use WhatsApp, both out of security/privacy concerns and principles, period.

    @Nanos you can have whatsapp on a device that has no sim card, but only one instance can be active for a given phone number. What do you even mean by "SIM connection"?

    It's funny to see the other side, I'm tired of asking people why they don't have whatsapp, too.

    The only way to reach my family is through whatsapp, yup the one that "made by shitbook" why the fuck they bought it?!

    @Nanos I know people who use WA on their tablet without a sim card. Afaik it works until you activate another instance with the same number. What is a phone without a sim card anyway?

    I had avoided WhatsApp for quite some time, but eventually I bowed to rescue what little social life I have.

    @saucyatom I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that your case wouldn't be about principles then?

    @linuxxx I avoided it out of principle, but it was simply the only option to stay in contact with people. Staying off it really wasn't worth the consequences anymore for me and I also use much worse services than WhatsApp (though I'm trying to replace them), so my principles are not enforced thoroughly anyway.

    On another note, funnily, when they announced the whole "by Facebook" branding, I only heard about negative responses to it. (which is a good thing)
