For an ostensibly security-focused financial company, these people really don't know what they're doing. Everything I've seen thus far is so hacked-together that I feel like i'm looking at code written by high schoolers.

Seriously, some of API Guy's code is better than this.

And they even make a point to remind me of ultra basics like `.to_a`, `.map`, or "a good command to keep on hand is `rake db:migrate`" -- like seriously? Those are in bloody "Intro to Rails" tutorials (and it's `rails db:migrate` as of Rails 5). For an ostensibly all-senior team, these devs are awfully junior.

Welcome to financial IT? where senior just means you've been around for a long time and haven't gotten fired... (and most managers are B players)

Over the years, I've given up on trying to fix things. Now I'm just a smartass that says "I told you so", occasionally make "miracles" happen and hopefully won't get fired...

@billgates Yep, that's going to be me, too.
I'm not afraid to be blunt blunt when I see stupidity.

@Root try getting into a hedge fund? I guess though it's sorta the trade off between big and small companies.

Less ppl handling a lot of money means they gotta be really good at it. Or the entire place goes bust...

They go with a sort of survival of the fittest. Banks are more like survival of the fattest/biggest...

    I'm in a similar situation.

I always cringe when I hear companies brag about their "bank-level security"
