Fucking Hetzner, I am definitely not sending you copy of my ID after I read the privacy policy. Data-hungry cunts. I just hope you send back that 20 euros, you requested on account creation.

    You need to pay to create an account?

    @RememberMe when you offer servers as cheap as hetzner you attract people that want to use them for bad stuff. And hetzner is definitely not interested in dealing with them. Most scammers won't sent their ID or pay 20€ upfront (which you get back btw if you successfully register(or even if you don't)).

    @fuckwit I see, interesting.

    @fuckwit I paid those 20 euros because there was a choice between paying or sending ID, so I chose to pay. But now I still got mail, that I need to send them my ID.

    @lamka02sk I'd ask again why you suddenly have to send over the ID. And even if they still insist on wanting ID I would have no problem sending it to them.

    @fuckwit let's just say I know a thing or two about them. Had enough conversations with them.

    Icelandic providers don't even require a name, let alone address, and accept anonymous payments via Bitcoin. That's why whistleblower sites can be hosted in Iceland, but not in Germany.

    Scan it and black out everything, except your name. But save the blackouts on a different layer, so if they need more data, you can remove the blackout instead of the complete remake.

    +1 to the above ^, I did the same when I registered. I censored my id card so much, you could barely tell it was a real one. I only left visibile the stuff that they already had through other means, like name and country.
    Also, don't forget to encrypt everything with their pgp key, so you don't have to send anything in the clear.
    As annoying as that may sound, they were surprisingly efficient at processing my request.

    @endor it shows that the sender knows enough to make their life miserable.

    @fuckwit Oh I wouldn't send a random company like that my ID for the life of me. At least not before there'd be an audit public with details as for if their security is good. And even then...

    @linuxxx well yes not a random company. But Hetzner Online definitely isn't a random company. And then they are even ISO 27001 certified. So there's that.
