Just had this argument with our BA that our error messages are shit and useless, and I was told "users don't need to know any details, they just want to know it failed"

Error messages should not create more confusion. Too often that is the case.

Had a user ask me to make error messages actually say what went wrong.
I said if Photoshop would tell me, I'd tell you but it only tells me something non descript went wrong so i can't help you heh

C# would tell you somewhat comprehensible error messages. But C++... *sigh*.

ha! That brings back memories of being a Lotus Notes developer... There was nothing worse than when the client would crash with the dialog, "A non-specific general error has occurred." with a single OK button. When you click the button it all went away and you didn't know why.
