Could it help increase performance of vm's on a hdd? I mean, they can be horribly slow.

Now I have a 7200rpm hdd and the vm's run just fine, but to quote a very wise man: SPEEEEEEED

    *sigh*

Could you at least think about what it is and what it does....

    It's an adaptive readahead daemon.

It takes it's time to build a statistic to ne efficient... And when it is efficient, you should really take a look at the model of your harddrive... And replace it. Because it shouldn't be so slow.

SSD and RAID 1... Old myth die hard.

In most cases you'll gain nothing except faster wear down and higher latency.
