I've always wondered how the designers of the USB standard were able to not get this right from the beginning.

Then again, even worse mistakes that were just as obvious to anyone with half a bran have been committed. Anyone remember WEP?

@Grumpy Well they did put a raised logo on the top of a USB. You just have to look or feel for it to know which way to put it in

@adbo This is actually my favorite thing about USB cables: vendor logos always face DOWN. Hallelujah!

    Shrödinger's port 😂

@Grumpy - I loved WEP. When I still lived in an apartment, I sniffed out my neighbor's wifi password and had free wifi for quite a while. 😁

@Swifticus Yes, WEP is great on someone else's WiFi. Especially if they're within range.

An ISP where I live sets random default WPA2 passwords consisting of 8 characters [0-9]|[A-F], i.e. 32 bits. Takes about 6 hours for oclhashcat to search through that solution space on the GPU.

As someone once observed, when the end comes for the guy who invented the USB connector, his coffin will descend part-way into the grave. It will then be necessary to pull him back up, rotate the coffin, and try again...
