Why is it so hard to read a 15 pages paper or article? I read hundreds of fiction pages or news in a day, but reading 100 lines of a scientific paper is a pain in the arse and I lose concentration by line 3.

I've found the longer the academic publication is, the more likely it is they're going for high score (flooding the work with non-representative-data, unnecessarily obvious work showing, crappy pasta quotation, redundant or repetitive datasets as appendices, etc).

Some of the best pieces I've read have been in the 10-15 page range sans bibliography.

In which language? I'm only middling when it comes to Mandarin, and from an ESL standpoint it's no worse than what comes out of Russia or eastern europe.

It's only marginally worse than what comes out of Russia or eastern europe. I think I've developed an immunity to engrish. What really annoyed me are US graduate students from India. When I was still active I began ignoring those as 90% of the solicitations were behind paywalls.

Read a book about the linux kernel (~ 1000 pages) in a weekend. Completely forgeting about time.

That fantasy book or that thriller. Reading 30 minutes at a time. Still "working" on it after 2 freaking months.

Sometimes i think something is really wrong with me :D

It's a thing; in a field defined by high analytical reproducibility, you tend to be able to make the point in a lot less volume.

It's content was also transformative to for the industry. It has a high consumability and conceptual clarity despite being PhD level work. It's in my top 5 reference pieces when someone asks how they should write technically.
