Still boggles my mind that it took something like coronavirus for people to start covering their mouth when sneezing / coughing, washing hands and let's not even mention public places like shopping malls and stores to start with regular disinfection of their premises.. 🙄🤦‍♂️

    Desperate situations require desperate measures

People won't change, so situations like this need to arise, either naturally or artificially

I've still seen people wiping their noses with their hands and touching their masks. And I haven't seen many people lately. But I don't think I've heard anyone cough.

You don't notice them sneezing and stuff, because there is almost *nobody* TO notice.

I mean, yeah. I wish those habits were born out of respect for other people instead of the mass-hysteria being created, fanned and promoted by media in general.

"Who knows who is actually carrying the virus!? There are asymptomatic people! Your neighbor my have it. YOU might have it. It's deadly, don't you know? And YOU might get people SICK. YOU might end up KILLING people if you don't cover your mouth. You don't wanna be a murderer, right? I mean how can you even fathom NOT wearing a mask (correctly) or NOT covering your mouth when you cough in 2020? People who don't do these things can basically be KILLERS."

    /sarcasm

@nitnip hysteria is the only way to get people's attention in short term, but I don't think it can motivate for half a year. At that point there has to be some other motive.

@electrineer habit. Pure and simple. Once you form one, it's easier to keep rolling with it even if you don't always believe in it or find any sort of enjoyment on it.

The comic book shops pretty much died with the lockdowns because the habit people had of going once a week and pick up comics was broken. And then they realized they didn't need them. (Well, I mean, that industry has been a festering corpse for a long time already but you get my point)

Another example would be people who keep playing the same online multiplayer game(s) without finding any of the initial enjoyment they got when they formed the habit.
