@FitzSuperUser no idea, I no longer have any machines with a floppy drive 😕 They are mint condition though!

@kvsm mail them to me? Haha

@kvsm I have a few drives... Weirdly I'm 20 never used one in my life 😓

That 'config.sys' tag evokes memories of fiddling with settings, to get the most of the measly 640kB memory limit, that evil powers had condemned us to live with during the dark ages.

@Grumpy The most I can recall getting was around 620kB (with no mouse, or sound, or...)

@kvsm @Grumpy ...how did anything get done with half a mb 🤔

Everyone project I do... Is twice that before I even count images 😏

@FitzSuperUser well, if your program could make use of it you could load a driver to enable 'expanded' memory - 16MB on my top of the line P90 circa 1993.
But many programs were still restricted to 640kB, so you would tweak which drivers were loaded (and figure which you could load to 'high' memory - reserved space >640kB, <1MB).
    Fun times!

@kvsm I think I prefer how it is now 😏

also we didn't really worry about images because there weren't any

@FitzSuperUser As ksms said, images weren't even an option. Also, you had to use efficient languages like C and C++. Java would have used too much memory, but OTOH there was no Java at the time.

The computer I used before the PC was a Z80 machine. That's an 8 bit CPU with 64kB address space. The OS and built-in language occupied 32kB ROM, leaving 32kB for the programmer.

That's why Visicalc was a big programming effort at the time, whereas writing a clone is a minor student assignment today.

@kvsm I remember working with images back then. It involved manual focus, darkrooms, chemicals from Kodak and projectors. :-)
