Maybe there's a connection between ruining your body with too little sleep and symptoms like hair falling out.

On top of that, people who don't sleep enough often don't observe proper nutrition either - pretty much for the same reason.

NoMad134245y@Fast-Nop yah. It's a cluster fuck right now. I'm just "trying" to eat well and "trying" to have a routine for sleep, in both of which I ma failing. Noodles and random naps ftw. @NoMad There's a high chance that this is why. I did stuff like that when I was younger, but I learnt that companies don't thank you and leave you alone with the damage.

My solution for "can you do this, and this, and this also" was "sure, boss - tell me which of the other activities to postpone".

@NoMad Had the same issue in my final thesis, and I decided to reduce the scope a little. My final assembly version just didn't have all features of the Matlab prototype.

@NoMad Correct, I declined two offers for a PhD because I had seen these people work insane hours for little money and being at the whim of prof divas for years. That's when I figured that I would make more money for less work and more freedom in the industry.

NoMad134245y@Fast-Nop would be easier with a better friends&family support network, but unfortunately I don't even have that. Lol. NoMad134245y@Fast-Nop would be easier with a better friends&family support network, but unfortunately I don't even have that. Lol.

@Fast-Nop No-one in their right mind does a PhD for the money. It's almost never worth it financially.

It's either done as a ticket to a permanent job in academia where (generally speaking, not always) salaries are still low but research freedom & job flexibility are high, or as a way to work full time on an interesting research project, while getting work published under your name and gaining a highly reputable qualification when you're done.
-

@AlmondSauce Agree. The problem with that is that permanent uni employment means a prof job, and there relatively few of them. If it doesn't work out, your age and overqualification are obstacles for entering the industry.

However, given the current trends, being a woman in tech would give you massively better odds for a career in academia, so that might indeed be an option. Provided that there are no women of colour competing, in which case a white woman would still lose out.
-

@AlmondSauce Just to clarify on the last one, of course I don't imply that @NoMad would need the extra card for replacing qualification.

Working on projects when you're sleep deprived and your hair is falling out is food for nightmares!
Jesus, why am I shedding hair? I'm afraid to look at my scalp and see bald spots.
