Just found an EPROM (Erasable Programmable ROM) from my dad's old stuff.
Yeah, there's a window for UV light, if you wish to erase your existing code/data!

so. if uv light passes through that small whole, you practically reset it?

@ryncops Yeah, expose it to UV and the data stored will be cleared....later we can store new data.....'reprogrammable' as they call it ;)

Had to work with this thing in a Digital Systems Lab... Didnt work because of reeeeeeally bad IDE

I use them sometimes, one of my hobbies is building single-board computers using old processors. That's not just an EPROM, btw, that's a microcontroller with EPROM rather than flash.

A ROM that can be written to? So...RAM.

@SpencerBeige No random access, so not RAM.

@Gauthier Sorry, kinda new to this. I don't get it...is the only difference that one retains memory when power is shut off?

@SpencerBeige Nope....that's the general notion.....there are non volatile RAMs as well!.....RAM - as the name says - Random Access - you can 'jump' to any memory location - hence it's very fast. ROM - sequence like - access in blocks - manufacturer dependent.
