Watch out, the X470 and X570 have a chipset fan, this sucks. On the other hand, B450 lacks PCIe 4.0, but if you don't need that, there are good and tried B450 boards.
-
Parzi88454y@Jilano NZXT cases tend to be more expensive than my price range, they look awful and they're not the greatest for cooling. As for mobo, I need something that'll last me as long as possible, especially since they're so goddamn expensive now and multiple Ryzens fit it. A chipset fan is fine if I can get something I don't have to upgrade for years and years to come, especially if it stays low enough to buy.
-
Parzi88454y@Fast-Nop A chipset fan is bad... why? Just means one more fan to watch, not a big deal if it means I don't have to upgrade mobos again for longer. My current desktop is from 2011 and still plugs along fine for most things, it's just starting to lose support for things thanks to the campaign to remove legacy support from OSes and the unstoppable march of time.
-
@Parzi Because these are small and therefore high RPM fans, which is noisy. Also I wouldn't trust the fan to be any good, so it will even become more noisy after a while.
You could eye either a B450 board which can also support Ryzen 3 if the mobo manufacturer updates the BIOS (download requires a photo of the new CPU as per AMD's guidelines!), or go with a B550 board which will support Zen 3 without one-way BIOS update. -
Parzi88454y@Fast-Nop My R9 380 has to be revved to 2000RPM or higher manually or it won't spin. I can't fix it or buy a new GPU, so noise is gonna be inevitable for me. Plus I really don't give a fuck, as it won't be on while not in use (which is how my current parts are still alive, take care of your shit.)
How much are B550s? I can't find them anywhere, are they the new ones coming out? -
@Parzi What you can't find B550 mobos? They're in stock everywhere. The cheapest one at mindfactory.de is an Asrock at 106 EUR, the most expensive one a Gigabyte at 258 EUR. US prices will be different of course.
-
Parzi88454y@Fast-Nop I'm using PCPP, and they don't have the option to select those unless I turn the compat filter off.
-
@Jilano For the CPU, I just love the Scythe Mugen, provided that the housing allows for it.
@Parzi Of course it does at pcpartpicker.com if that's what you mean. The filters are at the left side when you click to the mobos. Check B550 for the chipsets, and presto. -
Parzi88454y@Jilano i'm just gonna use the stock cooler as i'm not gonna OC and I can underclock if needed, i'm not really in it for the speed game here.
@Fast-Nop it's pretty clearly telling me it's not compatible -
@Parzi Ah yeah you're right, B550 won't run the 2600, but spending $35 more on a 3600 doesn't seem like a bad idea anyway.
-
Parzi88454y@Fast-Nop i don't have the $35, hell, I don't even have the money for the 4 parts in the first place. I've gotta gamble on November, and it may not even happen.
> picking parts for best possible piecemeal upgrade/sidegrade price with parts made after 2011
> need CPU, mobo, RAM, case
> Ryzen 5 2600, 16? No, 32GB DDR4 of just whatever speed...
> wait, what do you mean new motherboards are $300? Wait.
> Wait, no, how is the one Ryzen motherboard under $100 a shit B450M on sale? The fuck are these prices?
TIL motherboards are volatile as fuck on price. In fact, mobos are less stable in value than most crypto.
Jesus fuck.
(The one B450M i saw is actually now $140-some and a nice X570 is currently $120. Why does the price of these fuckers change *daily?*)
as for case none under $100 are good so i picked some random mostly-mesh ATX mid case over my preferred ATX full case and i'm just gonna pray i can find some fan config that works because at this point i'm done with this shit fuck this, a bottom-barrel mobo, low-tier cpu and a decent case shouldn't be $400 or more
