In my universe 92% people use Linux

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Linux user at heart, but Windows is the most used consumer OS. Linux dominates servers, embedded, and possibly even development, but don't delude yourself. Windows is the market, so that's where they sell it. Hopefully it changes, but don't low to yourself and pretend no one uses it

@iam13islucky None of my *friends* use windows ;)

Some companies only support windows because it is tried and tested over the last 20 years or so. Take Autodesk they are massive and work with Windows because the market is windows( graphics drivers are good ) software built for windows will work with windows.

I think what I'm trying to say is that because of the disparity in the Linux world and the lack of 3D drivers until a couple of years ago even now they aren't as polished as windows drivers. Software companies will aim for the low hanging fruit (windows) rather than having to rewrite and compile their applications because you have kernel version 3.1.4.23.a instead of 3.1.4.22.d

Not trying to start a war just saying

    P.s good rant

Its still fairly common in Enterprise and especially Government/Healthcare.
Likely because of a combination of Windows being tried and tested by so many users, and also possibly because they signed up for a support contract lasting 10-20 years so they are basically locked into it. I think this is part of the reason Government departments in particular are so far behind with OS and browsers etc. They only upgraded to Windows 7 over here in the last few years because Microsoft had basically guaranteed them so many years of continued XP support.
So yeah, its still widely used, and Bill Gates is still the richest man on the planet lol.

as an aside, get this for a laugh, we are building a desktop web application for the health service. and Internet Explorer is our ONLY officially supported browser. Literally the only one.

@HarambeJS knowing how insecure many healthcare computers are, and how outdated, I'm not surprised
